Reel Sizing and Materials

One way we like to think of reels is that they are another tool in our toolbox that aid in creating an overall safe and smooth running operation. That is why selecting the correct reel (also referred to as spools) size and material is just as important as selecting the right product, equipment or team for the job.

The intended use for the reels, plays a major factor in how we layout your reel options. The type of product (wire, cable, hoses, cordage, flexible pipe and more), the weight of the product, and if the reels will be used for transportation or storage/organization, are all details we take into account. A reel not matched to the specifications of the product wound on it may be damaged during storage or transportation.

Upon contacting us, we take the time to learn more about your unique reel needs and the specifications of the products that will be wound onto your reels. We look at the type of product (wire, cable, hoses, cordage, flexible pipe and more), the length of product you will need for your project, overall diameter (O.D.) of the product, and its minimum bend radius. The minimum bend radius is one of the most important factors to take into account when designing reels. If a product is subjected to bends sharper than the minimum bend radius, damage to the product is possible.

Reel material is also an important component to ensure your product is protected during storage, transport and handling. We are proud to offer reels in a variety of materials, each with their own distinctive strengths. Laminated reels have been our most popular style due to their versatility across multiple applications. However, we have seen a major shift in the reel world over the years, and we are excited to see a build in demand for OSB (or plywood), plastic and steel reels.
